The International Graduate Award (SINGA) is an esteemed scholarship program by the Singapore Government, aimed at attracting top international students to pursue their PhD studies in Science and Engineering at leading Singaporean universities. With its generous financial support and access to world-class research facilities, the award provides a unique opportunity for passionate individuals to embark on a transformative academic journey.

The scheme is designed to recognize outstanding international students who have achieved excellent academic results and possess a strong interest in conducting research leading to a doctorate in Science and Engineering. Each year, over 240 international students are awarded to study in Singapore. This  award not only supports students financially, but it also opens doors to cutting-edge research opportunities and collaborations with renowned research institutions.

The Singapore International Graduate Awards offers students the opportunity to work closely with prominent research institutions in Singapore. Students can choose to conduct their research at the renowned Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR), National University of Singapore (NUS), Nanyang Technological University (NTU), or the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD). These institutions provide a stimulating environment conducive to groundbreaking research and innovation.

The program offers PhD programs in two major fields: Biomedical Sciences and Physical Sciences and Engineering. Within these fields, students have the opportunity to delve deeply into their chosen area of specialization and contribute to breakthroughs in their respective fields. The program equips students with the necessary knowledge and skills to become leaders in their academic and professional careers.

The program is committed to ensuring that its scholars can fully focus on their research and academic pursuits. The scholarship covers full tuition fees, providing financial stability throughout the four years of the PhD program. Additionally, students receive a monthly stipend ranging from S$2,700 to S$3,200, allowing for a comfortable living while pursuing their studies. A settlement allowance of S$1,000 and airfare grant of up to S$1,500 are also provided to facilitate a smooth transition to life in the new study environment.

Criteria for the Singapore International Graduate Awards scholarship.

Eligibility for the scholarship requires international graduates with a passion for research and a strong academic track record. Proficiency in written and spoken English is essential, as is providing academic references that speak highly of the applicant’s potential and commitment to research. The award is intended primarily for international students studying for the first time in the country. Singaporeans, permanent residents and International students studying/who have studied in Singapore tertiary institutions are not eligible.

Application process

Applicants are advised to research more on the various PhD research projects. To apply for the scholarship, interested individuals must complete an online application form. Applicants will be required to submit a valid passport, a recent passport-sized photo, Bachelor’s and/or Master’s academic transcripts
Bachelor’s Degree certificate(s) or a letter of certification from the university, two letters of recommendation (to be completed and submitted online by the referees).

Applicants applying to NUS supervisors/projects are required to submit your GRE scores in their scholarship application form. Applicants may be requested by the university to submit satisfactory GRE scores as part of the university admission requirement. The submission of IELTS / TOEFL / SAT I & II / GATE results is optional.
